I watched this TED Talk quiet awhile ago but recently watched it again and I think it’s Spectacular!!! I believe that there is a purpose to be found in everything. And in that axiom, there is freedom of choice. We are able to choose the high, the healthier, the more anabolic choice!! One that will keep us well and healthy and get us through anything.

Goal Setting…. June 10, 2010

As a coach I help people reach their “goals” in an achievable sustainable way….   Yes you might want to increase your bank account, let go of some weight or even meet the partner of your dreams but I have a new thought for some of you…..

Your stated goal isn’t really your goal. Your goal is how this idea makes you feel.  What you thought was your stated goal is only the strategy for achieving peace, contentment, and love.  For example let’s say that you want to increase your income to well over a 6 figures.  The goal is, how will this make you feel and what will you achieve in reaching your stated goal.  Is it that you have more financial freedom or say it will give you the ability to live a fuller life?  So making more money is your strategy and not your true goal.

What does your true  goal and what t is your strategy to achieve it?

The Way You Do Anything…. May 29, 2010

SORRY!I can remember spending hours with my sisters when I was a kid playing SORRY! and little did I know that it was going to tell me so much about how I was going to show up in life when I was an adult.  I have frequently used the expression, “The way you do anything is the way you do everything”. I invite you to look at the way you use to play board games when you were a kid, or the way you do now for that fact. How do you play? Do you sit back and observe your opponents, then go in to play? Do you play full-out all the time? Or do you play in and out?  Think about it. Then I invite you to look at how you live…… What are the parallels?

How are they similar? How do you engage with others?  Even for that fact how do you engage with yourself? Do you play your board game honestly? Do you hide your cards or did you take them out at the last-minute…… Do you share all the time and give things away? How do you want to win the game? Where else in your life do these similarities show up?

I realize I have asked a lot of questions.. Really look at how you played/play any game. But the Game of life is not to be won or lost it’s merely played it’s never going to be won.

What would happen if we just simply played? When we play the board game the winning isn’t the goal….. What is it that the winning brings you? How does the winning make you feel? That is the goal! The winning is simply the strategy to reach the goal.

The way you do anything is the way you do everything.

I truly believe that people have good intentions, not all comButterflye out that way but it is because they are not conscious enough to know the difference. And we live in a world of advice giving when one is in distress or when one appears to ask for our opinion…. What do we do? We give our advice , most freely.  Often times all they are really asking for is comfort and in reality… drum roll…. No one really listens to advice anyway. Now I know that this is a hard pill to swallow but here’s the deal.  We all do exactly what we want to do in the end.

So here’s a thought…. I invite you to be quiet. I know that it is not easy but let who ever it is simply vent. I know it’s completely understandable to have a need to want help. But what is it that the butterfly does before it can fly? Struggle. So be uncomfortable with this for a while.  And yes the advice asker always has to fact find but I invite you to simply be quiet and allow yourself to see what happens when you don’t give advice.  Just listen….. Be supportive. Allow for the spaciousness of quietness.

When is the last time you gave advice…?  How can you become a better listener? See what grace the space allows…

Love and Light

Be Melting Snow

Totally conscious, and apropos of nothing, you come to see me.
Is someone here? I ask.
The moon. The full moon is inside your house.

My friends and i go running out into the street.
i’m in here, comes a voice from the house, but we aren’t listening.
We’re looking up at the sky.
My pet nightingale sobs like a drunk in the garden.
Ringdoves scatter with small cries, Where, Where.
It’s midnight. The whole neighborhood is up and out
in the street thinking, the cat burglar has come back.
The actual thief is there too, saying out loud,
Yes, the cat burglar is somewhere in this crowd.
No one pays attention.

Lo, I am with you always means when you look for God,
God is in the look of your eyes,
in the thought of looking, nearer to you than yourself,
or things that happened to you
There’s no need to go outside.

Be melting snow.
Wash yourself of yourself.

A white flower grows in the quietness.
Let your tongue become that flower.

When children are little what is one of the first question they are asked?……..”What do you want to be when you grow up?” And I have to confess that I as a coach asked my clients the same question because it tells us an inner passion that may have not been fulfilled and can be explored.

But what I am more interested in is the question, “How do you want to be when you grow up?”  If you were to ask a child or for that fact even an adult “How do you what to be when you grow up?” I doubt they would say overstressed, over worked, cranky, uncommunicative, depressed… you get the idea. They would say Joyful, happy, playful, carefree and Loving. Now doesn’t that sound just beautiful!  I feel even light simply typing those words….. What would happen if we followed “How do you want to be when you grow up?” verses “What do you want to be when you grow up?” How do you think it wold affect your quality of life? Your interaction with people let alone your self?  How magnificent would it be to follow are how which would envelope are what so that everything that we did was led by Joyousness, Playfulness and Love….

My final question to you is…. How do You want to be when you grow up?

Love and Light

I am going to start a weekly posting called “The Who of You”. Of course there will be the other regular musings to read but this one is special.  I have had very unique thought about love for a while…. There are a lot of books out in the world the talk about the “What’s” and the “How’s” of being in the dating and love world.  It all seems to focus on the exterior. The hugely successful books “He’s just not that into you” or “The Rules” never focus on the who…. Like, hey do you even like him? How do you feel about you? What makes you sing? What are your joys?…. The inside of you. Who truly are you in this world?

We live in a world that lives on an IV drip of real-time information and we don’t stop to see and listen to our own inner voice to hear who we are.  So it is all about what we are, our job, our home, our car and what we can provide.  What’s the first thing you ask when meeting someone at a party… it’s usually What do you do for a living?  That’s the What of a person..How about What’s the last book you read or What did you want to be when you grew up. Stop for  a minute and think about our society and how it supports the what of us and not the who.  So how can we be expected to enter a relationship that is supported by the who. We have lived this way for centuries so how can be begin to shift this thought process?

This is just the beginning of my musing of the who of you!
